The Bible is Truth

Do the common expressions of ‘good luck,’ ‘hang in there,’ or ‘I’m sorry’ ever comfort you beyond the surface when you are in distress? No, because there is no power in them or behind them.
If the Bible is just another book, its words would have the same fleeting effect.
But the Bible is not just another book. God and His power work through His Word.
Before a divorce and subsequent legal saga which culminated in a week in jail, I believed God’s Word was true.
Now I know the Bible is true.
Jesus, praying to the Father as recorded in John 17:17, said “Sanctify them (Christ’s disciples) by the truth; your Word is truth.”
While some people are calmer than others, worry and anxiety are natural human reactions to a crisis.
God’s Word stilled my soul in the middle of a lengthy divorce and jail stay.
How can words in a book bring assurance? Because when you read them and believe them the presence of God and His power are brought to bear on your situation. God comes into play.
The Bible helps us understand sorrow, as best that we can here on Earth. Everyone seeks answers during a crisis from someone or something.
As for me, my view of God was entirely too small. I didn’t apply to daily life the fact that He holds every atom in the universe together. (Heb. 1:3, Col. 1:17)
As a result, He is sovereign over even seemingly trivial matters, such as when a sparrow falls to the ground. (Matthew 10:29)
As I read God’s Word during hardships, He gave me direction. The Word altered my behavior. And obeying God’s Word led to blessings for me.
Think of the Bible this way; the Bible is the very mind of God in print, as a pastor at my church says.
As you read this sentence, God is using the Bible to change thousands of lives and alter circumstances worldwide. God’s Words also are governing the universe from the smallest atomic elements to massive planets.
Do you tire of reading news stories and asking yourself if you are being lied to? Does the author have an agenda? Is this news report the truth?
As a reporter for more than 20 years, I understand your frustration.
Pilate, when questioning Christ before His crucifixion, asked “What is truth?” John 18:38a
The Roman governor was looking at the Author of all truth and asking, ‘what is it?’
We are blessed. We don’t have to wonder. “Your word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.” Psalm 119:89
